SEXUAL HEALTH AND RELATIONSHIPS
"Let's talk about sex"
Roz Bicen
Roz focuses on Sexual Health and Relationships, working on the principle that 'What can be known should be known'.
As the mother of two grown-up children - both at university - and a regular speaker in schools, Roz remains close to the pace of modern life for young people today.
"My talks are tailored to the age-group and gender composition of my audiences. However, the common element in every case is a total commitment to providing comprehensive factual information, in a memorable and accessible manner - without either patronising or evangelising. In a nutshell, I simply tell them everything I wish I'd known at their age!"
Roz's engaging informative style is designed to dispel the dangerous mythology - and to diffuse some of the media pressure - still associated with so much contemporary sexual health.
Roz recognises and illuminates the dangers of a changed social environment where alcohol and recreational drugs are often present in many inter-personal relationships - making good decision-making more vulnerable to impulse.
Roz Bicen has a post-graduate degree in Psychodynamic and Humanistic Counselling. She runs courses in schools on Peer Listening Skills with an anti-bullying content. She is a Group Facilitator at Milton Keynes College on their Counselling Skills courses and has also recently qualified in Community and Neighbour Mediation Practice.
SPERMS & GERMS “The ins and outs of sexual health”
Helen Ellerby
It is important to offer the opportunity for all young people to discuss personal and intimate relationships and the consequences of these.
The way in which this is facilitated is vitally important so that knowledge, attitudes and behaviour are explored in order that the young person is able to make the right choice for them and seek help and advice if needed.
Young people develop at different rates which mean that some will want information on starting a relationship whereas others of a similar age will want information on contraception and the spread of sexually transmitted infections.
Helen Ellerby is an experienced school and sexual health nurse who teaches and facilitates sessions on sexual health issues. These talks can be tailored to meet your requirements. They may be to whole year groups or smaller classes. However in Helen’s experience the smaller the group the more beneficial the session.
Helen uses a range of teaching methods in order to create a positive and lively atmosphere. She feels that it is important to create a safe learning environment so that pupils may feel comfortable to discuss sexual health issues without disclosing personal information. Helen also feels that all group members should be given the opportunity to contribute to the discussions whilst being sensitive to cultural and religious diversity.
Helen currently works as a school nurse in a large co-educational independent school and as a Sexual Health Nurse for an NHS Trust.
