Love the Skin You’re In

(Body Image, Self Esteem, Body Confidence)

Natasha Devon

Statistics show that 1 in 10 young people under the age of 25 suffer from an eating disorder and 70% of girls and 30% of boys between the ages of 11 and 19 cite their relationship with their body as their number one worry. Natasha Devon, co-founder of the Body Gossip © Campaign, therefore offers a presentation to schools which is both timely and necessary. The presentation not only focuses on eating disorders, but also addresses self-image, body-confidence and self-esteem. The result is greater confidence for students, who then have more respect for themselves and for others.

Natasha can speak from personal experience about how years of bulimia pushed her body to its limit and her extraordinary fight back to beat the disease.

Now she is dedicated to helping others with eating disorders and low self-esteem as well as giving young men and women the opportunity to listen, think and discuss issues about body image and the impact it has on young people in society today.

Natasha writes: “The misery which accompanies a lack of self esteem can permeate every area of a young person's life, rendering them incapable of achieving their potential, or from enjoying their existence.

A lot of teenagers don't know why they hate their bodies and they don't know why hating their bodies makes them hate themselves.

One hour a year is not enough time to solve every student's body image issues, but it will at least introduce the issue and start them thinking, perhaps talking and even seeking any help they might need (through a carefully selected range of specialist advisers).

Natasha has spoken at schools and colleges across the UK, providing workshops to pupils and students as well as training for teachers. Her work is supported by MP Jo Swinson, co-founder of the All Parties Parliamentary Group on Body Image and TV Body Confidence Guru Gok Wan.
