ALCOHOL AWARENESS

Anthony McLellan

It is not my job to convince young people not to drink.  My presentation is designed to help the audience to understand what they are dealing with so that alcohol can be used carefully and with common sense.

There are many and varied influences governing the way in which individuals view drinking.  Family background, religion, medicine, and the media are to name but a few.  This presentation is an opportunity to bring them all together, and with the myths exploded and the facts laid bare, the audience can make informed decisions about their own relationship with alcohol.

When, where and how much is it all right to drink?  What are appropriate motives? These are some of the questions young people need to consider.  The message in this presentation is “Here is reality. How you respond is up to you”.  Each year alcohol ruins the lives of millions of people, whilst for many others it never presents a problem.  What can be known about alcohol should be known, and the entire presentation is hinged upon decisions based on solid knowledge and truth.  Always this is linked to self-worth.

This presentation is designed to offer pupils, parents and teachers a dimension on alcohol that is rarely addressed or acknowledged.  One of the biggest failings of human nature is the inability to grasp the obvious. On this occasion, the communication is pitched at a level that moves people from within - "If you will teach me,  if you will help me, if you will heal me - first, you must touch my heart"
